It has been a long wait; a long wait for another World Cup; a long wait for the World Cup to come to Africa. I can’t say how excited I am.

I salute the Republic of South Africa. They have done us proud already. Like I told a colleague yesterday, no country could have done it better than South Africa. They have beaten all odds and seeing the World Cup draw and last nights concert, I have no doubts this is going to be a very successful tournament.

I am rooting for Ghana. I have a lot of confidence in the Black Stars and I believe strongly that they will win the World Cup. Today, when the tournament kicks off at 16:00CAT, I will be rooting for South Africa against Mexico. I don’t expect them to go past the quarter-finals but they have really improved and with the vuvuzelas and the cheers, they should do well.

Ahhh! I can’t say how excited I am. I have been banging K’naan’s Wavin’ Flag all morning. I, Kwabena, promise to watch all 64 matches. Let’s Go!!!

“Give you freedom, give you fire, give you reason, take you higher.

See the champions, take the field now, you define us, make us feel proud.

In the streets are, exaliftin’, as we lose our inhabition.

Celebration it’s around us, every nations, all around us.

Singin’ forever young, singin’ songs underneath that sun.

Let’s rejoice in the beautiful game.

And together at the end of the day,

We All Say:

When I get older, I will be stronger.

They’ll call me freedom. Just like a wavin’ flag”.
